Thecla “Tek” E. Phillips, 82 of Shawnee, Kansas formerly of Ottawa, Kansas died Saturday, August 24, 2013 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ottawa, 10:00 A.M. Friday, September 6, 2013. A Rosary will be said at 6:30 P.M. Thursday, September 5, 2013 at Dengel & Son Mortuary, followed by a family and friends visitation at 7:00 P.M. Inurnment Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Ottawa Tek was born on January 12, 1931 in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was the daughter of Joseph and Emma (Ihle) Kuley. She was a graduate of St. Dominic’s Grade School and Seton Academy High in Cincinnati and attended the University of Cincinnati. While attending school and after completion, she was associated with the Billboard Publishing Company. On October 4, 1952 Tek was united in marriage with Blaine B. Phillips in Cincinnati. They had been married 59 years at the time of Blaine’s passing in March, 2012. For many years they lived in Wichita where she retired from the Coleman Company. They moved to Ottawa in 2004, and she later moved to Shawnee, Kansas. Prior residences included Topeka and Jacksonville, Florida. Survivors include her children, Christine Young and husband Steve of Shawnee, Kansas, Julie Kirkwood of Shawnee, Kansas, Blaine “Skip” Phillips and wife Tiffany of Franktown, Colorado; grandchildren, Corbin Phillips, Jesse, Gina and Jared Kirkwood, and Breanne Young; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and three brothers. The family suggests memorial contributions to Sacred Heart School c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S.
