Teresa Lynn Guetterman, better known as Teri Lynn and Grandma Teri, passed away peacefully in her home on May 30, 2023, after a 6-month battle with cancer.
Visitation will be held from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm, Monday, June 5, 2023, at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 22779 Metcalf Rd., Bucyrus, Kansas 66013. Rosary will be prayed at 10:00 am, Tuesday, June 6, 2023, also at the church. Funeral mass will take place at 10:30 am. Burial to be held at Holy Rosary Cemetery after mass.
Teri was born, Teresa Lynn Scott, on July 12, 1957, in Buffalo, Missouri. As a child, she moved several times between Missouri and Kansas before settling in Spring Hill, Kansas at the age of 16. There she would fall in love with horses, finish high school early, begin work, and marry Gary Guetterman in 1978.
Together they welcomed the first of three children in 1979. Motherhood was enjoyable and came easy to her because of her experience helping raise her younger siblings. Her early days as a mother became difficult as she struggled to beat non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at the age of 26. It was during this battle that everyone got to see the type of fighter she was. She brought the same fight to the cancer that took her life, and it undoubtedly made her mad because she didn’t like to lose.
She found her second calling in 1996 when she started her own business, Chores Unlimited, cleaning new construction homes. This business would bring her more than financial stability, it would bring her a lifetime of new friends and experiences; ones she cherished until her last days.
Her life improved even more in 2014 with the birth of her first grandchild. It was at this time that Teri got to be the person she always wanted to be, Grandma Teri. She was finally able to pass on the love and care her grandmother Ressie gave her. She always wanted to be just like Grandma Ressie; a goal she accomplished.
The last 10 years of her life were undoubtedly the best. She settled into an old farmhouse in the country that she maintained to perfection inside and out with a well-kept yard and flowers everywhere. A place where treats and ice cream were always available (especially for the grandkids and even for breakfast), where quilts were made and her famous breakfast sandwiches could be “whipped up in a jiffy”. She loved this place so much that we struggled to get her to do anything else. She just wanted to be there with the grandkids.
Teri is survived by her father Bill Scott (Helen), her three children, Jeff Guetteman (Rachel), Dave Guetterman (Christa), Kelli Dorrell (Mike), her 7 grandchildren, Isabel, Charlie, August, Jossie, Eve, Marvin and Zelie. Her siblings Pam, Sean, Robbie, Jeanie and Jamie who all considered her the Matriarch of their family. She is preceded in death by her mother Norma D. Reser and her brother Randy Scott.
We will miss her big smile, quick wit and humor, her convicted spirit, the love, nurturing and support she gave her children and grandchildren, her excellent food, her hard work ethic, the love she had for mowing the sod field across from her house, her love for music, dancing and looking pretty (which was easy for her) and her love of saints and angels. We found much comfort when on her death bed, she asked, “Who is Saint Anne? She’s come to me three times wearing a pink dress." In awe we responded, “Jesus’ Grandmother”. We found this so fitting given Grandma Teri was the greatest grandmother ever.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made payable to Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic School, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, PO Box 669, Louisburg, Kansas 66053.
