Sylvia Bernice Crane was born May 9, 1919, at Quenemo, Kansas. She was the daughter of Jesse and Maude (Murrin) Heilman. A lifelong resident, she made her home in Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas, until her death Sunday, July 21, 2002, at the age of eighty-three years. She was a lifelong homemaker. She also worked as a seamstress for H. D. Lee Company in Ottawa in the 1940's and 1950's. Mrs. Crane loved her family and her greatest joy came from spending time with her children and grandchildren. On December 8, 1934, Bernice was united in marriage with Ray Steele Crane at Ottawa, Kansas. He preceded her in death August 23, 1996. She is also preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Florence Richter, Fern Firestone, Betty Burgoon; and, brother, Hugh Heilman. She is survived by three daughters, Donna Mallicoat of Ottawa, Elaine Suffron and her husband, Kenneth E., of Ottawa, Beverly Rose and her husband, Jim, of Topeka; son, Capt. Larry Crane and his wife, Vicki, of El Centro, California; ten grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and, eleven great-great-grandchildren. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 26, 2002. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Rev. William Weber. IN STATE: Mrs. Crane will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 5:00 p.m. Tuesday to the service hour. CEMETERY: Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona, Kansas.
