Suzanne Mcgrath Wassmer

Suzanne McGrath Wassmer, 91, of Kansas City, formerly of Ottawa, passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2016. A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, December 17, 2016, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ottawa. Suzanne was born Thursday, May 7, 1925, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, the daughter of Harold Daniel and Zena Justine (Horner) McGrath. She spent her childhood in Kansas City, Missouri, where she attended St. Elizabeth’s Elementary. Her family moved to Ottawa, Kansas, in 1939. She graduated from Ottawa High School in 1943 and attended Kansas State University where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. On May 8, 1950, she married John Noonan Wassmer at Sacred Heart Church in Ottawa. He preceded her in death on December 28, 1995. Suzanne sold real estate for 20 years. She served on the board of United Cerebral Palsy of Kansas since 1969. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Friends of the Library, Ransom Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Women’s Golf Association and a charter member of the “Monday Bridge Club That Meets On Wednesday” that began in 1950. She scored a hole-in-one on October 11, 1994. She is survived by her two siblings, Peg McClay and Larry McGrath; and her four wonderful children, Teresa Morrison and husband Patrick, Matt Wassmer and wife Bonnie, Philip Wassmer and wife Barbara, and Jenny Sodergren and husband Steve; and six grandchildren, Sydney Cochran and husband Tim, Nick Wassmer, Antone Raposa, Joe Sodergren, Carolyn Wassmer and Andrea Sodergren.
