Steven Lorenzo Lewis

Steven L. Lewis, 43, departed this life Wednesday, March 21, 2007, in Saint Joseph, Missouri, from a vehicle accident. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 26, 2007, at First Baptist Church in Ottawa. He was born October 12, 1963, in Ottawa, Kansas, to Wendell and Thelma (Grimes) Lewis. He lived in Ottawa most of his life. Steven graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1982. He was a member of Bethany Chapel Baptist Church in Ottawa but later united with Mount Sinai Family Worship Center of Ottawa, where he was recently called and licensed to preach the word of God. He attended architect school. He completed Truck Driving School in Kansas City, Missouri. He worked for Cain Trucking two years and Conway Trucking two and one-half years. He was currently employed by FedEx Trucking, Kansas City, Kansas. He was married to Lynnette Johnson on May 13, 1989. They later divorced. From this union, two sons were born. Survivors include his parents of Ottawa; two sons, Devin and Dominick Lewis of Ottawa; brother, Wendell Lewis, Jr. of Ottawa; sisters, Sheila Lewis of Ottawa, Karen Lewis of Greenwood, Indiana; three nieces, Karessa Lewis, Cydney Lewis, Chelsea Shanklin-Lewis, all of Ottawa; nephew, Andr' Lewis of Ottawa; grandmothers, Mildred Wilkes of Ottawa, Willa Mae Grimes of Hopkinsville, Kentucky; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Birl Grimes; two uncles, Arnold Grimes, Andrew Grimes; aunt, Barbara Haddox; and cousin, Gregory Grimes. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery in Ottawa. Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Lewis from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 to 9:00 p.m Sunday, at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa, where family will meet with friends from 5:00 to 7:00 Sunday evening.
