Stephen Philip King, 69, of Pomona, passed away Saturday, August 25, 2018 at his home. Memorial services will be held at 5:00 P.M., Tuesday, September 4, 2018, at Dengel & Son Mortuary with military honors by the United States Navy. Family will meet with friends immediately following the service. Stephen was born Monday, June 27, 1949, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Philip H. and Novella Faye (Larson) King. He was a lifelong Franklin County resident. Stephen graduated from Pomona High School with the class of 1967. He attended one year of college at Pittsburg State University before enlisting in the Navy. After he was discharged from the Navy, Stephen went on to attend a vocational trade school. Stephen served in the United States Navy from 1969 to 1972, completing two tours of duty in Vietnam during that time. He obtained the rank of BT3, and received the Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was united in marriage to Nora Reed on March 1, 2003, in Michigan Valley, Kansas. She survives of the home. Other survivors include his mother, Novella King of Ottawa; stepson, David Ellisor of Texas; brothers, Joe King of Pomona, and Tomas King and wife Linda of Pomona; sister, Karla King of Ottawa; daughter-in-law, Debbie Ellisor of Texas; eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Stephen was preceded in death by his father, Philip King; and stepson, Darrin Ellisor. He worked as a maintenance mechanic at the power plant for the City of Ottawa for fifteen years, retiring in 2010. Stephen was a member of the Appanoose Baptist Church of Pomona. He was also a member of the Outlaws Car Club and a former member of VFW Post 5901. He restored old pickups, including a 1949 and 1955 Chevy, and a 1940 Ford. Stephen was a very talented man, having various skills as a carpenter, mechanic, and metal fabricator.
