Stephen Loyd 'Steve' Chapman was born September 18, 1955, at Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas. He was the son of Kenneth Eugene and Jewell (Mealman) Chapman. Steve grew up in Ottawa. In 1981, he moved to Lawrence, Kansas, returning to Ottawa in 1987, where he made his home, until his death Wednesday, August 11, 2004, at the age of forty-eight years. Steve graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1973. He was a Journeyman Electrician for International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local #226, retiring in May of 1999. He served in the United States Army from June 18, 1973, to June 17, 1976, attaining the rank of SP4. He received the Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Medal. He also received a commendation of Expert (Grenade) Marksman (Rifle). He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Ottawa, and former member of the Ottawa Lions Club. Steve was married to Sara Church in 1973. They were later divorced. On May 30, 1981, Steve was united in marriage with Katrina Louise Mitscher at Lawrence, Kansas. She preceded him in death on May 23, 1987. On October 31, 1988, he was united in marriage with Carol Ann Bodenhamer at Ottawa. She survives of their home. He is also survived by his mother, Jewell Chapman, of Ottawa; two daughters, Stephanie Louise Cole and her husband, Travis, of Ottawa, Jennifer Marie Chapman, of the home; son, Eric Sean Chapman of Pomona; two brothers, Kenneth 'Kenny' Chapman, Jr. of Ottawa, Kirt Chapman and his wife, Sondra, of Ottawa; four sisters, Claudia Seaton and her husband, Gene, of Ottawa, Gloria Newman and her husband, James, of Evergreen, Colorado, Sheryl Stephenson and her husband, Dana, of Ottawa, Toni Schmidt and her husband, A. J., of Pomona; brother-in-law, Michael W. Bodenhamer of Ottawa; Godfather, Loyd Scribner, of Ottawa; and, four grandchildren, Angelina Rose Cole, Mercadez Lane Marshall, Eric Wade Marshall, Jr., Bailey Marie Chapman. He was preceded in death by his wife, Katrina Louise Mitscher, and father, Kenneth Eugene Chapman. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 16, 2004. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Pastor Larry Carrier. IN STATE: Mr. Chapman will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 1:00 p.m. Saturday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 4 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday. CEMETERY: Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas, with military honors by Ottawa National Guard. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to Steve Chapman Memorial Fund, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S.
