Stephen "Steve" Knapp, 58, of rural Paola, Kansas, died January 10, 2014 at Miami County Medical Center. Steve was born July 4, 1955 in Lebanon, Indiana. He was the son of Virgil and Rosalind (Whomes) Knapp. He grew up in Indiana graduating from Zionsville High School with the Class of 1973. He was married to Denise White and together they had one daughter. Their marriage ended in divorce. He later married Marlene Vaughn and to this union one daughter was born. They were divorced. Steve was currently working in Wal-Mart in Paola as an optical technician. He had been employed at Wal-Mart for 17 years and had held many positions there. Prior to that, he had worked at K-Mart in the Kansas City area for approximately 15 years. He had also worked at the state park in Michigan and as an EMT in his younger years. Steve enjoyed working on his computer. He loved watching mystery drama series and old western movies. Another of his favorite pastimes was cooking. He had been the pastor at the Victory Road Baptist Church in rural Paola since 2001. He had been an associate pastor prior to that time for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his daughters Sarah Knapp of Ottawa, and Brooke Camehl of Flint, Michigan, Lynn Myers and husband Mikel of rural Paola; two sisters Anita Sallee and husband Frank of Zionsville, IN and Amy Nickerson and husband Allen of Overland Park, KS; his brother David Knapp and wife Susie of Zionsville; one granddaughter Desiree; and other relatives and friends.
