Stephen K. Sassaman, 71, of Ottawa, passed away Sunday, September 26, 2021, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Graveside memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, October 1, 2021, at Overbrook Cemetery, Overbrook, Kansas. Steve was born on Sunday, January 29, 1950, at Iola, Kansas, the son of Joseph and Irma (Bachelor) Sassaman, Jr. He lived in Ottawa the last 12 years moving here from Garnett where he lived many years. Steve graduated from Overbrook High School with the class of 1968 and attended Emporia State Teacher’s College. He was a heating and cooling technician for many years. Steve served in the United States Navy as a mechanic from 1969 to 1973. Stephen was preceded in death by his father, Joe Sassaman Jr., son, Benjamin Sassaman, and sister, Nancy Miller. Survivors include his mother, Irma Sassaman of Ottawa; son, Seth Stephanz of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; daughter, Cristal Roberts (Warren) of Scranton, Kansas; three sisters, Marcia Sassaman of De Soto; Lea Ann Boyce of Manhattan, Kansas and Penny Sassaman of Lawrence Kansas; ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Steve was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He liked cars and motorcycles and enjoyed his dogs and cats.
