Stephen Eugene Bennett

Stephen “Steve” Eugene Bennett, 61, of Paola, KS, passed away in his sleep on November 7, 2019 at his home in LaCygne, KS. Steve was born in Arkansas City, KS to John W Bennett Jr and Grace Bennett on July 18, 1958. He went to Paola high school and attended Fort Scott Community College. Steve was a great athlete in his youth and was an amazing football player in high school. He loved the Kansas City Chiefs despite poor play calls by their current head coach. He loved to go fishing but loved lying about his fishing adventures even more. He often visited his brother Mike and his family on Saturday evenings for Fox News night dinners. He enjoyed good food, real butter, Miracle Whip, and cream soda. He was very proud of his nieces and nephews. He commented on a recent Facebook post, “…From what I have seen, all seven of Mike and Mary’s grandchildren have great potential. Very, very talented in everything they do. Good luck in life. Proud to call them family.” Steve is preceded in death by his father John W Bennett Jr; two sisters Deborah Bennett and Eileen Castleberry; one niece Brenda Castleberry; and one nephew Richard Castleberry. Steve was survived by his mother Grace E Bennett. Alas, days later, Steve and Grace reunited in the heavens to continue their journey together and to touch the face of God. Steve is survived by two brothers John “Web” Bennett III of Wichita, KS and Michael Bennett of Drexel, MO; one sister Joan Denise Dolaway of Napanoch, NY; one nephew Kristopher Pivin of Troy, NY; two nieces Jamie Wirsig of Drexel, MO and Dana Phillips of Drexel, MO; 5 great nephews Daryn Phillips, Ben Wirsig, Hyden Wirsig, Riley Phillips, Reagan Wirsig; two great nieces Ally Phillips and Briana Phillips; and many, many good friends including his bestest friend Randy Hayes.
