Stephanie L. Daugherty died peacefully in her sleep early in the morning of October 28th, 2023. She was born in Noordwolde (North Woods), The Nederlands (Holland) on Nov 8, 1935. She grew up during the Nazi occupation of Holland, and her family hid members of the Jewish resistance and also saved the lives of many Dutch farmers.
After WWII, the Eggink-Lovink family immigrated to Alabama to start a community of Dutch dairy farmers. Her father was also the minister for the community.
When her family returned to Holland, stayed in Alabama to finish her teaching degree at the University of Alabama. She went on to become a wonderful teacher for any student who was privileged enough to be in her class. She taught in Topeka until her daughters graduated from High School and then moved to Kansas City, where she became a private caretaker for the elderly.
She was a great advocate for anyone less fortunate than herself. She taught her children to respect others and to treat people kindly, no matter their race, cultural background, or religious beliefs. She was loved by everyone she met, including friends in local donut shops, restaurants, and jazz clubs. She was one of the great ladies, and she will always be loved and missed.
She is survived by her brother, Philip Eggink, and her sister, Wendel Eggink (The Netherlands), her children Kenneth Holland (San Bernardino CA) , Wendy Bradshaw-Wright (husband Chris, Paola, KS) and Louisa Bradshaw (NYC), and four grandchildren, Hannah Bonam (Kaushik), Stephen Wright, Jessica Davenport (Chris), and Rebecca Wright.
