Stella Maxine Collins, age 90, of Tarboro, North Carolina, died Monday, March 5, 2012, at Vidant Edgecombe Hospital in Tarboro, North Carolina. She was born on Sunday, December 18, 1921, in Ottawa, Kansas, the daughter of William Franklin and Mabel (Crocker) Hazen. She moved to Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina in 2003 and Tarboro, North Carolina in 2009. She was raised in Ottawa. Maxine graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1939. She owned and operated Collins Boarding Home at various locations in Ottawa, and was a nurse’s aide over forty years, retiring in 2001. She attended Cherry Street Wesleyan Church in Ottawa. In June of 1940, Maxine was united in marriage with Emil Verne “Curly” Collins in Illinois. He preceded her in death on October 27, 2005. She is survived by her: Son – Richard “Dick” Collins of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina; Son – Robert “Bob” Collins of Ottawa, Kansas; Sister – Barbara Adams of Topeka, Kansas; Sister-in-law – Evaline Pritchard and her husband, Jim, of Ottawa, Kansas; Special family friend – Linda Wilks of Melvern, Kansas; Six - Grandchildren Several Great - Grandchildren and Two Great-Great-Grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her: Parents – William Franklin and Mabel Hazen; Husband – Emil Verne “Curly” Collins; Brother – William “Junior” Hazen; Brother – Frank Hazen; Sister – Dorothy Keltz; Sister – Irene Van Hefty; Sister – Oletha Horner and Sister – Toleda Hoskinson. SERVICES: Family and friends will meet for Graveside Services at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 9, 2012, at Highland Cemetery in Ottawa.
