Stanley S. Subelka, 83, of Paola, Kansas, passed away Thursday, August 22, 2019, at his home. Funeral services will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Paola, Kansas, 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 31, 2019. Family will meet with friends from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the church followed by the rosary. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Paola, KS. Stan was born Friday, June 19, 1936, in Kansas City, KS, the son of Alex S. and Catherine (Dumesik) Subelka. He served his country with the United States Air Force. His military stint with the Air Force began July 12, 1957. He was released from active duty on October 11, 1960 at which time he transferred to the Air Force Reserves. He was honorably discharged on July 11, 1963. Stan was married to Constance "Connie" Turner and they became the parents of five daughters. Their marriage ended in annulment. He was united in marriage to Pauline Curry on November 15, 1971 in Miami, Oklahoma. To this union, three additional daughters were brought into the family. He worked as a millwright supervisor for many years. He was a member of Carpenters Union #1529. Being a member of the NRA, Stan was a gun collector who also enjoyed sport shooting. He liked traveling around the world. His profession involved a lot of traveling. He raised donkeys for 20 plus years, until his health declined. Stan was very devoted to his family. He was also very devoted to his catholic faith. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Paola. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Pauline, two daughters Genevieve M. Smith and Rosemarie E. McNames, two great grandsons Caleb Davis and Maverick Smith, one step-daughter Jacqueline Bartholomew, two brothers Joseph and Frank Subelka, and one sister Mary Lou Hoover. Survivors include three daughters Anne C. Coe of Paola, KS, Joan T. Subelka of Kansas City, KS, and Diane M. (Brian) Herron of Kansas City, KS; two step-daughters Carol Perigo and Myra Brown both of Broken Arrow, OK; brother Larry Subelka of Shawnee, KS; five sisters Joanne Higbee (Jimmie) of Kansas City, KS, Kathleen Renczarski of Smithville, MO, Teresa Nuccio (John) of Park Ridge, IL, Christine Marks (Bill) of Strongsville, OH, and Elizabeth Rebeck (George) of Basehor, KS; 14 grandchildren; 5 step- grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
