Sister Maureen "Rose Marie" Dunnivan

Rose Marie Dunnivan, 91, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Sunday, February 26, 2017. Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, March 3, 2017, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 301 N. Hooker, Caney, Kansas. Interment Sunnyside Cemetery, 408 N. Hooker Street, Caney, Kansas. Rose was born Sunday, January 10, 1926, in Neodesha, Kansas, the daughter of John Patrick II and Bertha Rachel (Guillaume) Dunnivan. She spent her preschool years in Caney, where her father was an engineer for Eastern Prairie Pipe Line. The family moved to Garnett, Kansas, where her father continued with the pipe line company. Rose received her public grade and high school education in Garnett. In 1944, after her senior graduation, she entered the convent of the Franciscan Minors Order of Perpetual Adoration at Mishawaka, Indiana, taking the name of Sr. Maureen. She remained with the order throughout her life of prayer and serving the sick as a radiologist at several hospitals operating in Evanston, Indiana; Memphis, Tennessee; the St. Louis, Missouri area; La Crosse, Wisconsin; Louisville, Kentucky; and Chicago, Illinois. In her retirement years, she studied in pastoral care and served as a chaplain until well in her 80s. In the spring of 2014, Sr. Maureen returned to Kansas to be near her relatives and to take her final rest with her mother and father. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, James R. Dunnivan and Rev. John Patrick Dunnivan III; niece, Karen K. Jeffers; and grand niece, Sherryl Sylwesiuk. Survivors include two nephews, Michael J. and Gary L. Dunnivan; numerous grand nieces and nephews; and numerous great-grand nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorial contributions to Sacred Heart Church of Caney c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S.
