Shirley S. Warren

Shirley S. Warren, 73, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Saturday, November 5, 2022, with her family by her side.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 11, 2022, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa.

The family will meet with friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, November 10, 2022, at the mortuary.

Interment Pleasant Hill Cemetery, west of Centropolis.

Shirley was born July 17, 1949, in Ottawa, the daughter of David and Effie (Armstrong) Jones. She was a lifelong Franklin County resident and graduated from Pomona High School with the class of 1967.

Shirley was united in marriage to Larry McMechan April 6, 1966, in Oklahoma. They later divorced.

On August 29, 1975, Shirley married William Russell Warren in Ottawa. He preceded her in death on July 15, 2021.

Shirley was a devoted homemaker and was employed in the 1970’s and 1980’s at the ALCO Department Store; 1980’s and 1990’s at Daisy Appliance Manufacturer, Gardner, as an assembler; 1990’s and early 2000’s at Ottawa Country Mart in the Deli Department; and in the mid-2000’s at American Eagle as a processor.

She always looked forward to spending time and visiting with family and grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, flowers and watching crime TV.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, brother Richard Jones, and sister-in-law Christine Jones.

Survivors include three children, Rhonda McMechan of Ottawa, Ronald McMechan and wife Arlene of Princeton, and Robin Wilson also of Princeton; siblings, Betty Flora of Ottawa, Glenn Jones of Pomona, and Letha Coulter and husband Bob of Burlington; four grandchildren, Craig McMechan, Ricky Wilson and wife Chelsea, Aaron Wilson, and Troy Wilson; and nine great-grandchildren.
