Shirley Orr, a beloved Paola resident died peacefully at her home with her loving husband David by her side on Thursday morning July 17, 2014. Shirley was born January 30, 1938 in Louisburg, the daughter of Raymond and Edith (Trageser) Seck. The family moved to Paola in 1951 and Shirley graduated from Paola High School in 1955. In Shirley"s words, she met the love of her life, David at Merlin"s Dance Hall in 1957. They both knew it was right and after a brief courtship were married at Holy Trinity Church on July 19, 1958. They celebrated 56 years together cherishing each day. After an 11 year honeymoon, they became the parents of Michael and their second son Mark was born 4 years later. Shirley was a member of Holy Trinity Parish since 1951. She worked for Miami County National Bank starting just after graduation in 1955, worked until 1969 when she took 15 years off to raise her boys and then returned to work until 2000 with a total of almost 30 years of service. To say that Shirley was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, relative and friend is an understatement. She lived for her family and friends and cherished all. Shirley had an enormous capacity for love. She not only made people feel special, all genuinely were special to her. She treasured every friendship, every relation and every conversation that she experienced. Shirley left behind her husband David Orr, mother Edith Seck and brother Jim (Shirley) Seck of Paola, sons Michael (Joy Beth) of Overland Park and Mark of Olathe, grandchildren Zachary, Andrew, Nicholas and Emily of Overland Park, Raegen and Isabel of Olathe. She was preceded in death by her father Raymond Seck. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Shirley"s honor to Miami County Cancer Foundation, Olathe Hospice, Holy Trinity Church or Heads Up, brain injury support group.
