Shirley May Stewart

Shirley May Stewart, 85, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at Parkview Heights Care Center, Garnett, Kansas.

Memorial Graveside Services will be held 10:00 am., Saturday, March 23, 2024, Richmond Cemetery, Richmond, Kansas.

Inurnment Richmond Cemetery, Richmond, Kansas.

Shirley was born Sunday, September 18, 1938, in Ziegler, Illinois, the daughter of Robert Leonard and Tillie Marie (Strohkirch) Hawkins.

She lived in the Richmond and Ottawa communities since 1991, moving there from Georgia. Shirley lived in many locations following her husband’s military service.

Shirley graduated from the Jones Academy in Chicago, Illinois with the class of 1956.

She was united in marriage on June 15, 1957 to Earl J. Stewart. He preceded her in death on October 29, 1997.

Shirley worked as a bookkeeper/secretary for ten years with ECKAN in Ottawa, Kansas and other area businesses including Wal-Mart before retiring in 1998.

She was an avid bowler bowling in the National Women’s Bowling Association and a member of the 300 club. Shirley enjoyed fishing, reading and western dancing with the Boot Scooters. She especially loved her family and grandchildren.

Shirley was preceded in death by husband Earl; parents Robert and Tillie; two sons Craig Stewart and Charles Stewart; brother Bobby Hawkins; and grandson Erick Stewart.

Survivors include daughter Deb Jenkins (Mark) of Waverly, Kansas; son Chris Stewart of Richmond, Kansas; eleven grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
