Shirley Mae Fritts

Shirley Mae Fritts, 73, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Monday, September 12, 2016, at Ottawa Retirement Village. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, September 19, 2016, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Family will meet with friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Sunday, September 18, 2016, at the mortuary. Interment Highland Cemetery, Ottawa. Shirley was born Thursday, October 1, 1942, in Ottawa, the daughter of Owen O. Heidner and Mary Alice (Nelson) Mealman. She was a lifelong Franklin County resident. She graduated from Pomona High School with the class of 1962. Shirley was united in marriage with Charles W. Fritts December 2, 1962, in Richter, Kansas. He survives of the home. Other survivors include her daughter, Sherry Lea Harris and husband Albert of Ottawa; two grandchildren, Adreyanna Macayla Sharp of Ottawa, and Zachary Harris of Burlington, Iowa; stepfather, Leo Mealman of Ottawa; sister-in-law, Judi Fritts of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; two brothers-in-law, Frank Fritts of Ottawa and Clifford L. “Skip” Fritts of Atlantis, Florida; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Owen O. Heidner and Mary Alice Mealman; and infant brother, Robert Mealman. Shirley was a devoted lifelong homemaker. She was an active member of the Richter United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, and United Methodist Women. Shirley enjoyed sewing, embroidery, playing games, puzzle books, painting, raising chickens, watching the Price Is Right, and listening to country music on KOFO.
