Shirley Louise White was born on Saturday, January 21, 1922, in Vernon, Texas. She was the daughter of Joseph Peter and Bertha (Long) Servatius. As a small child, she and her family moved to the Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas area, where she made her home until her death on Wednesday, July 19, 2006, at the age of eighty-four years. She graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1940 and attended two years of nurses training at Sabetha, Kansas. Shirley, along with her husband, Marvin, owned and operated White Grocery on West Seventh Street in Ottawa for thirty years, retiring in 1988. She truly enjoyed visiting with all their customers through the years. She was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Church, the Happy Hour Club and the Widow and Widowers' Group. She started the lunch program at Sacred Heart School and also served as a Brownie leader when her girls were young. Shirley loved to quilt and found great joy in giving many gifts to her family members over the years. On February 14, 1947, Shirley was united in marriage with Marvin Lewis White at Lawrence, Kansas. He preceded her in death on January 26, 1995. She is also preceded in death by her parents and son-in-law, John Bacon. Mrs. White is survived by three daughters, Betty Craig and her husband, Richard, of Tonganoxie, Kansas, Mary Ann Bacon of Ottawa, Kansas, Margaret Hackett and her husband, Ed, of Lawrence, Kansas; brother, Gerald J. Servatius of El Paso, Texas; seven grandchildren, Jay Bacon, Robin Gambrill, Sarah Trevino, Travis Hackett, Staci Gratton, Rob Bacon, Steve Mock; and sixteen great-grandchildren, Nicholas Bacon, Kody Campbell, Jesse Andrews, Kourtni Campbell, Autumn Mock, Kassidy Gratton, Victoria Andrews, Daryl McFarland, Ryan McFarland, Ty Gambrill, Sommer Gratton, Carter Gratton, Spencer Gratton, Parrish Mock, Hudson Mock and Riley Ann Bacon. SERVICES: A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 22, 2006, at Sacred Heart Church in Ottawa. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mrs. White from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday at the Dengel & Son Mortuary, where a Rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, followed by a family visitation at 7:00 p.m. CEMETERY: Mt.
