Shirley J. Atchison, age 72 of Ottawa, Kansas, died on Friday, July 17, 2009 at Wellsville Manor Care Center in Wellsville, KS. She was born on Saturday, June 05, 1937 in Princeton, KS. She was the daughter of Merle and Adah (Baker) Fish. Shirley was born on the Fish family farm near Princeton, Kansas. She moved with her family to Ottawa and lived in various other towns and communities in eastern Kansas. Shirley and her husband Owen lived mostly in Ottawa their entire married life. Shirley attended schools in Ottawa, Lawrence and Lecompton. She studied Nursing at Kaw Valley Vocational School in Topeka, Kansas where she obtained her Licensed Practical Nurse degree. Shirley was a homemaker. She was also employed as a waitress at 50-59 Grill and Country Kitchen both of Ottawa. She was a L.P.N. at McCrites Nursing home and Brighton Place Nursing Home, both of Topeka, Kansas. She retired in 1997. She was a member of We Care Ministries and V.F.W. Post #5901, Ladies Auxiliary both of Ottawa. On October 2, 1953, Shirley was united in marriage with Owen “Gene” Atchison in Lawrence, Kansas. He survives of their home. Survivors include: her husband: Owen “Gene” Atchison of Ottawa Three surviving sons: Floyd Atchison and his wife Alisha, Ottawa, KS, Handford Atchison and his wife Janet, Ottawa, KS, Clyde Atchison and his wife Dinah, Ottawa, KS; Two surviving daughters: Penny Weems and her husband Dean, Ottawa, KS, Peggy Lear and her husband Mike, Ottawa, KS; Four surviving sisters: Karen Kasson and her husband Earle, Lawrence, KS, Sharon Munsch , Oakdale, CT Donna Crooks and her husband Larry, Muskogee, OK, Linda Fish, Phoenix, AZ; Also surviving: Fourteen Grandchildren; Seventeen Gt. Grandchildren; Two Gt.Gt.Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: Her parents, Merle and Adah (Baker) Fish; She is preceded in death by: one deceased brother: Gary Fish; three deceased sisters: Bonnie Bond, Marilyn Fish, G. Darlene Allen; one deceased granddaughter: Maria Lear. SERVICES: Cremation is planned. Graveside services and inurnment will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 25, 2009 at Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
