Shirley J. Kohlenberg, 72, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2009, at her home. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, March 7, at the First Christian Church, Louisburg, KS. Visitation from 9:45 A.M. to 10:45 A.M Saturday, at the church. Burial in the Louisburg Cemetery. She was born June 28, 1936, to Everett and Ethel Pauline Spears Vaughan in Louisburg, KS. She married her husband of 53 years on September 3, 1955 in Louisburg, KS. Shirley is survived by her husband , Eldon, of the home; her children, Sheryl Manger and husband Mike, Chris Kohlenberg and wife Kelly, and Mike Kohlenberg all of Louisburg, and David Kohlenberg of Austin, TX; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Joyce Scharbrough of Weiser, ID, and Sandy Overy and Husband Tom of Dayton, NV; two brothers, Jim Vaughan and wife Roseann of Berry Creek, CA, and Gene Vaughan and wife Marlene of St. Robert, MO; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Shirley graduated from Louisburg High School in 1955. After graduation, she worked for various employers in Kansas City, Lawrence, and Topeka. After moving back to Louisburg, she worked as a columnist and news editor at the Louisburg Herald from 1996 until she retired in June 2005. She was a member of First Christian Church, where she held various offices and she delivered meals on wheels for the Senior Center.
