Shirley Irene Hughes

Shirley Irene (Reedy) Hughes, 85, of Williamsburg, KS passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, after battling heart disease and dementia the last few years. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 13, 2022, at the United Methodist Church in Williamsburg, KS. Family will meet with friends prior to the service from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., at the church. Interment Greenlawn Cemetery, 3:00 p.m. same day, at 1402 Stout St., Pratt, KS 67124. Shirley was born January 21, 1937, at Altamont, Kansas, the daughter of James and Ellen (Bird) Reedy. She met her future husband working at a fly-swatter factory in Pratt. She lived in Pratt, KS from 1954 to 1968, moving to Loveland, CO where she lived from 1968 to 1994. In 1994, Shirley moved to Williamsburg, KS. Shirley was married to Gary E. Hughes on January 24, 1954, and were married 68 years at the time of her death. Gary took care of her after she got sick and would do anything for her. Their love for each other was undeniable in all they did, even up to her last breath. She was a homemaker, and loved spending time with her family, and especially her children and grandchildren. She was the biggest fan for her family in all their school and sporting events. She loved to cook, go camping, and loved old Western TV shows, but most of all, she loved God and her church. She was preceded in death by her parents James and Ellen Reedy, and siblings Maxine Garcia, Jack Reedy, Jerry Reedy, Patty Hamill, and Jamey Andrews. She is survived by her husband, Gary E. Hughes of Williamsburg, KS; son Gary W. Hughes (Grace) of Cheyenne, WY; daughter Deanna Hughes-Castro (Maria) of Olathe, KS; daughter Leanna Hughes-Mitchell (Stephen) of Loveland, CO; son Gregory E. Hughes (Deb) of Grand Junction, CO; nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and siblings Sande Reedy and Curt Reedy, along with many nieces and nephews.
