Shirley Lucille Gregg, age 74 of Paola, passed away Sunday Sept. 12 at her home after a three year battle with cancer. Shirley was born Feb. 5, 1936 in Iola, Kansas to Roy and Nellie Reiniger McHaley. She attended the Iola Schools and on June 16, 1950, she was united in marriage to Carl Gregg in Iola. They made their home there until 1955 when they moved to Paola. She worked as a seamstress for the Smith Garment Company in the 60"s, then she and her husband opened Shirley"s Ceramic Arts and Crafts Store. She later opened the Mode-O-Day store on the square, and after it closed she worked for Pro-Fit Caps. During that time she also worked for Ringside Boxing Company and recently her and her husband ran Title Boxing Company out of their home, which she worked at up until the time of her death. Shirley even designed and made the boxing shorts for famed boxer Tommy Morrison. Shirley enjoyed her grandchildren, knitting, crocheting, embroidery, crafts and ceramics, camping clubs, china painting, where she also gave lessons, and working and creating items with her hands. Preceding her in death were her parents; two daughters, Sheryl Ann and Betty Sue; two brothers Earl Vernon and Clinton Dale McHaley; two sisters. Clara Noble and Stella Diaz. Survivors are her husband, Carl Gregg of Paola; daughter Letha Brixey of Paola; four grandchildren, Beau Louis Brixey, Andrew Lee Brixey, William Joseph Brixey, and Amanda Lucille Brixey; a brother, Robert Eugene McHaley of Paola; two sisters, Lela Damron of Garnett, and Betty Diaz of Hillsdale. She will be greatly missed by family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Miami County Cancer Foundation.
