Shirley Faye Elder

Shirley Faye Elder, 86, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Thursday, January 5, 2023, at Rock Creek of Ottawa, Kansas.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 P.M., Thursday, January 12, 2023, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa.

Family will meet with friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at the mortuary.

Interment Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas.

Shirley was born Wednesday, December 16, 1936, in Ottawa, Kansas, the daughter of Thomas and Ella (McClellan) Elder.

She was a lifelong Ottawa resident and graduated from Wellsville High School with the class of 1955.

Shirley worked as a waitress at Lee’s Café for many years. She was also employed at Pence’s IGA in the deli department and later with Bendix King as an assembly worker.

She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.

Shirley enjoyed working crossword puzzles and horse statues. She loved her family, especially her nieces and nephews, and caring for children in the family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Edith McAuley, Ray Elder, James Elder, Grace Elder, Thomas Elder, Jr., Donald Elder, Jack Elder, Elizabeth Ann Taylor, and Kenneth Elder.

Survivors include her sisters Jane Currant of Ottawa and Margaret Bischoff of Williamsburg; her brothers Richard Elder (Shirley) of Ottawa and Carl Elder, Sr. of Garnett along with many nieces and nephews.
