Shirley Ann Sjogren, age 81, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at Olathe Hospice House.
Private family services are planned. Final resting place will be Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas.
Shirley was born on Wednesday, April 22, 1942, in McLouth, Kansas, the daughter of Roy C. and Norma L. (Scott) Boyer.
She lived in Kansas for most of her life. Shirley attended Ottawa schools.
She was married to Jon Gary Mietchen. Together they had two children; Daniel and Julie. They later divorced.
Shirley later married Robert N. Sjogren, on May 28, 1965, in Sedan, Kansas. Together they had a son, Michael Scott Sjogren.
Robert preceded her in death on May 13, 2014.
Shirley worked for H.D. Lee in Ottawa, Kansas, for 17 years as a seamstress and then was employed with King Radio before retiring in 1989.
She loved collecting owl statues and loved working with many different house plants and outdoor plants over the years. Shirley also had a love for dogs, especially her dog Angel.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Sjogren, parents, Roy and Norma Boyer, sister, Barbara Jean Morton, and brother-in-law, Jim Morton.
Shirley is survived by her children, Daniel L. (Toni) Mietchen, of Ottawa, Kansas, Julie Mietchen, of Daniel Island, South Carolina, Michael Scott Sjogren, of Louisburg, Kansas, step-son, Nelson Tory (Peggy) Sjogren, of Greenbrier, Arkansas, nine grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, as well and many other extended family members.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made payable to Prairie Paws or St. Jude’s Children Hospital, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S Hickory St., Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
