Shirley A. (Showalter) Bailey, age 88, of Lawrence, Kansas, formerly of Welda, died Thursday, August 18, 2011, at Presbyterian Manor in Lawrence. She was born on Monday, February 19, 1923, in Garnett, Kansas, the daughter of Howard E. and Helen M. (Manspeaker) Winner. She was a lifelong Ottawa and Welda resident. Shirley graduated from Welda High School with the class of 1941 and Ottawa Business College, formerly known as Clark Business College, in 1941. She was a bookkeeper and cashier for Montgomery Ward in Ottawa from 1951 to 1966 and Union Gas Company in Ottawa eight years from 1966 to 1974. She was a long time member of North Baptist Church of Ottawa. On November 27, 1941, Shirley was united in marriage with Leonard Showalter in Ottawa, Kansas. He preceded her in death May 19, 1957. On December 31, 1970, Shirley was united in marriage with Donald Newton Bailey in Garnett, Kansas. He preceded her in death June 7, 2004. Shirley is survived by her Son-Nelson H. Showalter and his wife, Mary Ann, of Burlington, Iowa Son-Ronald W. Showalter and his wife, Inger, of Ottawa, Kansas Daughter-Linda A. Lewis and her husband, Jim, of Lawrence, Kansas Daughter-Kathy Jane Norton and her husband, Dan, of Estes Park, Colorado Stepdaughter-Carolyn Minsch of Sacramento, California Stepdaughter-Kathryn Bailey of Topeka, Kansas Sister-Jacqueline Hay and her husband, Richard, of Waynesboro, Virginia Grandchildren-Sixteen Great Grandchildren-Twenty-five She is preceded in death by her First Husband-Leonard Showalter Second Husband-Donald Newton Bailey Parents-Howard E. and Helen M. Winner SERVICES: Funeral services will be held at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2011. Family will meet with friends from 1:00 to 2:00 prior to the services. CEMETERY: Highland Cemetery in Ottawa, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorial contributions to Grace Hospice, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
