September 21, 1943 — November 2, 2017

Sharon S. Brockus, 74, of Ottawa, passed away Thursday, November 2, 2017, at Olathe Medical Center. Family will meet with friends from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, November 8, 2017, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, November 8, 2017, at Antioch Cemetery, Spring Hill, Kansas. Sharon was born September 21, 1943, in Osawatomie, Kansas, the daughter of Lawrence V. and Edith M. (Rhoades) Hadsall. She grew up in Miami County moving to Ottawa where she lived most of her life. She attended Paola High School with the class of 1961. Sharon was united in marriage to Norman Brockus October 18, 1969, at Ruhamah Baptist Church, Rantoul. He survives of the home. Other survivors include her five children, Mary Wharton and husband Terry of Heber Springs, Arkansas, Susan Osladil and husband John of Ottawa, William Gabauer and wife Tamra of Mound City, Barbara Gabauer of Ottawa, and Steven Brockus and Joyce Studdard also of Ottawa; two brothers, Vern Hadsall and wife Marilyn of Overland Park and Ray Hadsall also of Overland Park; twenty-three grandchildren; thirty-eight great grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces, nephews and a large extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence Hadsall and Edith Ledom; son, Joseph Gabauer, Jr.; and great grandson, Caleb. Sharon was a devoted homemaker who was also employed with Ottawa University as a cook/baker; Dairy Queen; Queen’s Carry Out; and as a seamstress with HD Lee, all of Ottawa. Sharon loved her family and looked forward to family get togethers. She enjoyed having a vegetable garden, growing roses and flowers, and sewing. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed. The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Shriners Hospitals for Children c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
