Sandra Kay “Sandy” Markley, 74, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Monday, March 27, 2023, at the University of Kansas Hospital, Kansas City, Kansas.
Family will meet with friends from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M., Saturday, April 1, 2023, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa.
Private family inurnment Ruhamah Cemetery, Rantoul, Kansas.
She was born Saturday, May 1, 1948, at Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of John and Betty (Gregg) Burgoon.
Sandy resided in Ottawa, Kansas since the late 1960’s, moving there after living in many locations with her military parents.
She was united in marriage to David Markley March 31, 1973, in Ottawa, Kansas. He survives of the home.
Sandy was employed with the Franklin County Daycare as a daycare provider for ten years. She also worked with the latch key program at Lincoln Elementary School.
She was a member of the West 15th Street Church of Christ, Ottawa.
Sandy enjoyed reading, watching television, traveling, and taking her grandchildren on trips. She especially enjoyed spending time with family and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Betty (Gregg) Ewing; son, Derek Lee Markley; and brothers, Roger Burgoon, Tom Ewing, and Robert “Bob” Ewing.
Survivors include husband, David Markley; son, Ray Poe (Rachele) of Ottawa, Kansas; daughter, Julie Wolff (Mark) of Pomona, Kansas; brother, Greg Ewing (Mary) of Florida; grandchildren, Shalisha Downing (Ryan), Trayton Poe both of Olathe, Kansas, Jordan Markley (Kurstin) of Wichita, Kansas, Jaxon Wolff of Pomona, Kansas; great grandchildren, Maxwell Banks and Myles Poe.
The family suggests memorial contributions to West 15th Street Church of Christ c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
