Samuel “Sam” Thomas Stuteville, age 76, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at Anderson County Hospital, Garnett, Kansas.

Sam was born to Thomas Junior and Margaret Lee (Lawrence) Stuteville on March 21, 1947, in Kansas City, Missouri.

Sam grew up in Stilwell, Kansas and graduated from Stilwell High School with the class of 1965. While in high school, Sam broke horses. After high school, he was drafted to the United States Army - in May of 1966. Sam was a demolition para trooper and served during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in April of 1968.

After his time in the Army, he began working for the city of Olathe as a police officer and later, parts manager. Sam retired in 2001.

He married Donna Lee Hines on March 15, 1976, in Olathe, Kansas. Together they raised three children, Angela, Shela, and Jamie.

Sam was a cowboy and a true outdoorsman who enjoyed racoon and coyote hunting. Sam also enjoyed playing music. He was a part of the band “Just Country” and other bands over years playing old country and gospel music. Sam was also a cartoonist for Mules and More Magazine and wrote cowboy poetry. He never met a stranger and was a jokester with his family and friends.

Sam is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Margaret Stuteville.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Donna Stuteville, of Garnett, Kansas; daughter Angela and husband Mark, of Orleans, Nebraska; daughter Shela and Joe of Ottawa, Kansas and son, Jamie and wife Lana, of Beaver City, Nebraska; five grandchildren, Arlie, Crystal, Clorisa, Katy, and Nikos; 17 great grandchildren; sister, Ann and husband Bob, of Stilwell, Kansas, as well as two nieces and many cousins and extended family members.

Graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, November 3, 2023, at Aubry Cemetery, Stilwell, Kansas, with military honors provided by the Louisburg WFW post 7348 and American Legion post 250.
