Salvador Vega

Salvador Vega was born on Sunday, April 1, 1945, in Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas. He was the son of Luis M. and Mary M. (Cruces) Vega. A lifelong resident, Salvador made his home in Ottawa until his death on Thursday, March 27, 2008, at the age of sixty-two years. Salvador attended Ottawa High School earning his GED and continuing his education at Ottawa University. He was an employee for thirty-eight years of Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad, working as a trackman, machine operator, student foreman, track supervisor, road master, and currently foreman. He served in the United States Army in the Vietnam Airborne Division. He was a member of Community Foursquare Church in Ottawa, and Brotherhood of Maintainence of Way of Wichita, Kansas. Salvador enjoyed the outdoors, especially, fishing, hunting and traveling. He was quite knowledgeable on computers and enjoyed using the internet. However, his greatest enjoyment came from his family and grandchildren and their family gatherings. On August 12, 1972, Salvador was united in marriage with Linda Lorenzo in Lawrence, Kansas. She survives of the home. He is also survived by his parents, Luis M. and Mary M. Vega of Ottawa; two sons, Chris Vega and his wife, Mikaela, of Tonganoxie, Kansas, Shon Vega of Ottawa; daughter, Venus Clark, and her husband, Monte, of Ottawa; four sisters, Rosalind Flores of ElCentro, California, Stella Jackson and her husband, Kevin, of Ottawa, Patricia Shenk of Wichita, Kansas, Sara Crump of Ottawa; brother, Richard Vega of Lawrence, Kansas; and seven grandchildren. Mr. Vega is preceded in death by his son, Salvador Vega, II, and granddaughter, Kristina Vega. SERVICES: Memorial services will be held from First United Methodist Church at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2008. IN STATE: Mr. Vega has been cremated. Family will meet with friends from 7 to 8:00 Monday evening at Dengel & Son Mortuary. CEMETERY: Highland Cemetery, Ottawa, Kansas.
