Ruth Virginia Carlson was born on Wednesday, January 30, 1924, in Agricola, Kansas, the daughter of Frank Joseph and Annie Pearl (Lue) Stansbury. For a brief period of time, Ruth lived in Topeka, Kansas with her sister, Dorothy Stansbury, and great aunt, Minnie Kungle. A near lifelong resident of Osage and Franklin Counties of Kansas, Ruth made her home in Ottawa until her death on Friday, September 9, 2011, at the age of eighty-seven years. Ruth attended Stoney Point School in Osage County, Kansas and graduated from Williamsburg High School with the class of 1942. She worked for a time at the Nickle Inn, a mom & pop restaurant in Melvern, Kansas; two different times for Hercules Power Plant; about nine or ten years for the American Soil Conservation office of the Department of Agriculture; about eleven years for Plattners; and, following her retirement in 1987, worked part time for Ramsey Printing. Ruth was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Memorial Post #5901 Auxiliary, and former member of the Women's Bowling Association, where she won many trophies. Ruth was a lovely lady who had a beautiful smile for everyone she met. In addition to bowling and visiting with her friends, she enjoyed going camping and fishing. On July 3, 1946, Ruth was united in marriage with Albert Neil Carlson in Lyndon, Kansas. They shared sixty-five years of marriage. He survives of Ottawa. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Ruth is preceded in death by her parents; twin children, son, Jackie, and daughter, Vicki; six brothers, George Stansbury, Frank Stansbury, Thomas Stansbury, Lue Stansbury, Leslie Stansbury, Robert Stansbury; and two sisters, Susie McClelland and Dorothy Beesley. SERVICES: Cremation is planned. Memorial services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 14, 2011, where family will meet with friends at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service hour. CEMETERY: Inurnment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery , Pomona , Kansas.
