Ruth M. Depriest

She grew up in Richmond, moved to Kansas City, Kansas, Washington, D.C., Olathe, Kansas,and Eufala, Oklahoma, returning to Franklin County, Kansas in 1947. Ruth graduated from Richmond High School in 1939. Following high school graduation, she was employed at Methodist Publishing Book House as a secretary. She was also a housewife and homemaker; worked for the War Department during World War II in Washington, D.C.; and Olathe Naval Air Base. She worked in cotton fields in Oklahoma and, after her children were raised, cleaned houses in Ottawa. She was a long time member of the Ottawa Cherry Street Wesleyan Church, where through her love for music and serving God, she was an accomplished pianist and organist, playing the organ for the church over forty plus years. She also accompanied many groups, including the church, choirs, weddings, funerals, and high school singing groups. She was in charge of the church cradle roll, actively taught Sunday school for several years, and was a fervent prayer warrior. On April 22, 1946, Ruth was united in marriage with Othal `Lee` DePriest at Ft. Smith, Arkansas. He preceded her in death February 3, 1996. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held at Cherry Street Wesleyan Church in Ottawa at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 22, 2004. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Pastor Scott Dickinson. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mrs. DePriest at Dengel & Son Mortuary from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m. Sunday, where the family will meet with friends from 3 to 4:00 Sunday afternoon.
