Ruth Emma Ratliff was born Thursday, March 13, 1913, in LeLoup, Kansas, the daughter of Ralph J. and Bessie O. (McMillan) Turkle. Ruth lived in the Homewood Community for a period of time, moving to Williamsburg, Kansas in 1969. In 1986, she moved to Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas, where she made her home, until her death Thursday, June 9, 2005, at the age of ninety-two years. Ruth graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1930. She then attended Ottawa University. She was a homemaker. In her younger years, she worked as a court stenographer. She was a former member of Richter United Methodist Church and later attended Willliamsburg United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Homewood Friendly Club. Ruth dearly loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She liked to crochet, quilt, and knit and created many lovely items for her family and friends to cherish through the years. On April 3, 1942, Ruth was united in marriage with William August Ratliff at Lawrence, Kansas. He preceded her in death on February 6, 1984. She is also preceded in death by her parents; son, Bill Seyler; two granddaughters, Beverly Ratliff and Angela Bowlby; and grandson, Scott Albright. Ruth is survived by two sons, James Ratliff of Garnett, Kansas, Tom Ratliff and his wife, Linda, of Lawrence, Kansas; three daughters, Betty Bowlby and her husband, Bob, of Richmond, Kansas, Donna Albright and her husband, Boyd, of Ottawa, Mary Crable of Ottawa, fifteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 13, 2005. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Pastor Jerry Harnden. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mrs. Ratliff at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 5:00 p.m. Saturday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 3 to 4:00 Sunday afternoon.
