Ruby Mae Brooks

Ruby Mae Brooks was born on Monday, June 2, 1924, in Quenemo, Kansas. She was the daughter of Peter Wesley and Flossie Maude (Davis) Servaes. Ruby lived in Osage county until moving to Kansas City in about 1950 until her marriage in 1975 going to Springdale, Arkansas then coming to Ottawa in March, 1987 and resided at Sunflower Plaza until her health forced her to move to a nursing facility. She has resided at Brandon Woods Health Center in Lawrence, Kansas, for the past eleven years, where she made her home until her death on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at the age of eighty-eight years. Ruby attended schools in Quenemo, Kansas. In 1941 Ruby was united in marriage to Lawrence Criqui in Ottawa, Kansas. They later divorced. On November 24, 1975 Ruby was united in marriage to William Loren Brooks in Erie, Kansas. He preceded her in death on June 26, 1987. Following William’s death, Ruby chose to live a quiet life alone. During her years at Brandon Woods Health Facility, she became more like a family member and was loved very much by the staff, with one woman working there naming her new baby after Ruby. Ruby worked in Kansas City from 1950 to 1951 at the switchboard for Southwestern Bell and then as a financial clerical worker for Bellas Hess until they closed and later as a dispatcher for Protection Alarm Company. While living in Springdale, Arkansas, Ruby and William attended a Baptist church. Together they enjoyed hiking, boating and taking short trips. Surviving family members include a nephew, Danny Servaes and wife Linda of Pomona, Kansas; two nieces, Connie Hoopes and husband Leonard of Ottawa, and Vickie Shaw and husband Jim of Ottawa. Ruby is preceded in death by her first husband, Lawrence Criqui; infant son, Gary Dale Criqui; second husband, Willaim Brooks; parents, Peter and Flossie Servaes and three brothers, William, Clarence and Ernest Servaes. SERVICES: Private graveside services will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona, Kansas.
