Ruby M. Maynard

December 7, 1929 — August 14, 2015

Ruby Mae Maynard, 85, long-time resident of Louisburg, passed away peacefully Friday, August 14, 2015. Ruby was the daughter of Dorothy Mae and Dennis Brand, and was born in St. Louis, Missouri on December 7, 1929, and had five siblings. She was united in marriage to Winifred E. Maynard Sr. on February 12, 1947, and they had six children. Ruby was a homemaker, mother, loving grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister and wonderful friend. She loved all things Elvis Presley, horses and anything having to do with babies, children and animals. Ruby made the best mouth-watering crispy fried chicken, delicious home-made ice cream and was an all around wonderful cook. If you were in her home, you were eating well no matter what life's circumstances at the time. She always spoke her mind, even when her opinions weren't popular, loved going to her children's and grandchildren's sporting and school events, liked to drive fast and was known to clear the table out of the kitchen and throw some cornstarch on the floor to make it easier for everyone to dance and do the twist. Ruby loved spending time with family and friends around the kitchen table playing Yahtzee, marbles, pick-up sticks, barrel-of-monkeys and all kinds of card games, especially the family version of slap-jack, in which Ruby was a fierce competitor. There was nothing better than grabbing a walking stick and heading off down a long country road with Ruby to explore nature at a nearby bridge and skip rocks in the creek. She also developed a love of riding 4-wheelers late in life and inspired many family members to join her and "drive faster!" Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, four siblings, one grandchild, one great grandchild, her husband and son, Winifred E. Maynard Junior. Survivors include five children: Linda Kueser and Pamela King (Bob ), both of Louisburg, Cathy Eggleston (Clinton) of Paola, Debbie Hammersmith (Dave ) of Lansing, Kansas and Roger Maynard (Carla) of Iola, Kansas; fifteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, three pending great-grandchildren and many other family members and family friends that viewed her as an honorary mother or grandmother. A special thank you to Grace Hospice of Kansas City, Missouri. The family suggests contributions to LL Dog Rescue, P.O.
