Roy Lee Spencer was born Monday, July 18, 1921, in Parker, Kansas. He was the son of Robert Earl and Grace Mae (Nolte) Spencer. Roy grew up in rural Parker, moving to the Princeton, Kansas area in 1947, where he made his home until his death Monday, September 12, 2005, at the age of eighty-four years. Roy graduated from Parker High School with the class of 1939. A lifelong farmer, Roy was always ready to help his friends and neighbors with their farming as well, if needed. He raised cattle, hogs, and milked for years. He also helped build the Farmland fertilizer plant in Lawrence, Kansas in the mid 1950's. He was a faithful member of Ruhamah Baptist Church of Rantoul, Kansas, and former school board member for Martin Grade School in Princeton. He enjoyed the outdoors, riding his tractor, working on the farm, and hunting. He also enjoyed traveling, especially through the mountains. In his younger days, he enjoyed dancing and was always ready for a card game. Roy was very proud of his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. On January 20, 1948, Roy was united in marriage with Blanche Elizabeth Handle in Paola, Kansas. They celebrated fifty-three years of marriage. She preceded him in death on October 31, 2001. He is also preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert Spencer. Mr. Spencer is survived by his son, Jeff Spencer and his wife, Tami, of Wellsville; daughter, Becky Fitzgerald and her husband, Mike, of Princeton; sister, Imogene Smith of Olathe, Colorado; two granddaughters, Kristin Spencer and her companion, Jason Stephens, and Mandy Henry and her husband, Kevin; three grandsons, Michael Lee Reyes and his companion, Cathie Bones, John Reyes, and Caleb Reese and his wife, Wendy; and seven great-grandchildren, Brandy Sanders, Lillyth Hall, Mallory Moss, Hannah Moss, Victoria Hall, Isaac Henry, and Kaylee Reese. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Spencer at Dengel & Son Mortuary after 9:00 a.m. Wednesday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 7 to 8:00 Wednesday evening.
