SFC Roy Anthony Christopher Kaufman (Rtd.) Roy "Sarge" Kaufman age 76, passed away January 13, 2008 at his home surrounded by his family. In lieu of flowers the family suggests remembrances to the V.F.W. in Paola, the Alzheimer"s Association, American Lung Foundation, or Hospice of Kansas Midwest. Roy referred to as "Chris" or "Sarge" was born in Hillsdale, KS on Dec. 16, 1931 to William Laport Kaufman and Iona Teresa McCoy-Kaufman. He married his wife, Aloya Kennedy, of 49 years on April 05, 1958. Roy spent 22 years in the US Army with tours of duty in Austria, Germany, Japan, Korea, Thailand and two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1972. After serving his country he worked at the Fickels Furniture Store for 19 years before fully retiring. Roys hobbies were more of the outside kind. He loved fishing and he loved mowing. The mowing led him to be able to use his metal detector to find coins and other lost of forgotten things. He was known as a man with a warm heart and an open hand. His family was number one priority. And he helped everyone he could. With his great sense of humor and one liners he never met a stranger. The Step Down and the V.F.W. was where you could find Roy shooting pool and reminiscing about the old days with fellow veterans. Survivors are his wife, Aloya Kaufman, Tonganoxie. Son, Mark Kaufman, Gardner. Daughter and Son-in-law Kathy and Don Crews. Granddaughters Heather Meyer, Cheyne McCormick, and Samantha Kaufman. Grandsons Dustin and Quentin Crews. Great grand children Aedyn Meyer and Kaliya McCormick. Sisters Coleen Lewis, Oklahoma and Evelyn Bell, Paola. And his brother Kenneth Kaufman Greely. He was proceeded in death by his parents William and Iona Kaufman, his brothers Bernard, Joe, William Jr, John, Paul, and James Kaufman. He was also proceeded by his son Matthew Kaufman.
