Roy Gorton, 86, of Ottawa, passed away Thursday, November 1, 2018, at Ransom Memorial Hospital. Cremation is planned. Private graveside services at Princeton Cemetery, Princeton. Roy was born on August 16, 1932 in Princeton, Kansas, the son of Valis Earl and Kathryn (Hatchell) Gorton. He was a lifelong Franklin County, Kansas resident, living in Princeton and Ottawa. Roy attended Princeton schools. He served in the United States Army Infantry during the Korean Conflict, attaining the rank of Sergeant. Roy was united in marriage to Maxine McBride December 31, 1955 at Ottawa. She preceded him in death on August 25, 2002. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Kathryn Gorton and three sisters, Earlene Weis, Betty Koch and Mary Stevenson. He is survived by children, Sherri Berr and husband Ronald of Quenemo, Valerie Bemis of Ottawa, Jeffery Gorton and wife Becky of Belt, Montana, and Lori Lacer of Ottawa; eight grandchildren, Jason Tedrow and wife Thais, Chris Berr and wife Kelli, Shirley Matile and husband Lucas, Geoffery Gorton, Beau Bemis, Heather Davis and husband Gib, Harley Gorton, and Trina Swank-Thomas; thirteen great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. After his military service, Roy was a truck driver for most of his life driving for Lawrence and Penney’s Ready Mix, retiring in 1994.
