Roy Gene Pine, 67, of Princeton, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 29, 2018, at Ransom Memorial Hospital with his family by his side. Cremation is planned. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at the Princeton Christian Church. Family will meet with friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Monday, April 2, 2018, at the church. Inurnment Princeton Cemetery, Princeton, Kansas. Roy was born May 16, 1950, in Mountain Home, Arkansas, the son of Roy A. and Edith P. (Ewers) Pine. He grew up in Rocky Ford, Colorado, moving in 1968 to Kansas. He attended Rocky Ford High School in Colorado. Roy took classes using the college without campus program at Ottawa University. He also received multiple sheet metal fabricating certificates. Roy served in the United States Navy from 1969 to 1973. He was in Vietnam from 1972 to 1973. Roy was united in marriage to Virginia Crone March 1, 1973, in Garnett, Kansas. She survives of the home. Other survivors include his two daughters, Janell Pine and Jessica Pine Johnston and husband Bryan; three siblings, Pauline Saulmon, Earline Nelson and Debbie Moreno; six grandchildren, Roy Steven Dial, Trevor Johnston, Abby Johnston, Bo Johnston, Samantha Caram, and Seth Aguirre; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy A. Pine; mother, Edith McMillan; brother, Joe Pine; and stepfather, Glenn McMillan. He was a plant supervisor at Duke Manufacturing for 25 years and director of maintenance at Central Heights School District USD 288 for 10 years. Roy has been retired for 12 years. Roy was an avid bass tournament fisherman from 1982 to 2017. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, all types of sporting events including high school, college, and pro. Above all, he enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s sports. He coached the Princeton girls’ softball team for several years even taking them to a state tournament. Roy always loved visiting with family and friends. During his retirement, he was well known around Princeton and Franklin County for his lawnmower and small engine repair work.
