Roy Edgar “Ed” Swank, 88, passed away Thursday, July 2, 2015, at his home in Ottawa. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 9, 2015, at Dengel & Son Mortuary with military honors by Fort Riley Honor Guard. Family will meet with friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at the mortuary. Interment Princeton Cemetery, Princeton, Kansas. Ed was born Thursday, August 5, 1926, in Ottawa, the son of Henry Russell and Ruth Gladys (Curtis) Swank. He was a lifelong Franklin County resident. Ed was united in marriage with Ramah Lucille Stoffer October 25, 1953, in Ottawa. She preceded him in death March 12, 2013. He was also preceded in death by his son, Garney Lee Swank; and three brothers, Robert, George, and Charles Swank. Survivors include his three sons, Royce Swank and wife Debbie of Ottawa, Derek Swank of Ottawa, and Perrie Swank and wife Kristina of Pomona; three sisters, Edith Montague, Louise Hamilton and husband Dean, and Irene Tinsley all of Ottawa; six grandchildren, Samantha Lefert and husband Loran, Scott, Emily, Philip, Allison, and Meredith Swank; and two great-grandchildren, Roper and Reatta Lefert. Ed worked two years at Ottawa Steel in the mid 1950’s, and was self-employed for thirty years as a water pump repairman and well driller, retiring in 1987. He also worked for Bendix of Ottawa and the City of Pomona. Ed served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1952 in the Grand Turk Islands as a heavy equipment operator. Ed was a member of the Richter United Methodist Church. The family suggests memorial contributions to Franklin County 4-H c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
