Rose J. Cathcard, 100, of Garnett, Kansas passed away Thursday, January 23, 2020, at Parkview Heights Living Center. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, January 31, 2020, at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Private inurnment will be held later at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Ottawa. Rose was born March 7, 1919 at Coffeyville, Kansas, the daughter of Noah and Florence (Mooney) Rutherford. She was a near lifelong resident of Ottawa, Kansas. Rose was united in marriage to Harry H. Cathcard in 1945. During World War II, Rose worked at an airplane factory. She also worked in a factory in the Ottawa area but for most of her life she was a loving and devoted homemaker. She lived the homesteader lifestyle making clothing, quilts and knitting. Rose enjoyed canning and was a wonderful cook. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, children and grandchildren. She always had a special love for horses. Rose was a former member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and the National Rifle Association. Survivors include two sons, Norman Cathcard of Ottawa and John Cathcard and wife Deb of Richmond; siblings, Lorraine Keehler and husband Dwaine of Lee’s Summit, Missouri and John Rutherford of Las Vegas, Nevada; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; three sons, Harry, Loyd and Ronnie Cathcard; four brothers, Sam, Bill, Morris and Norman Rutherford; two sisters, May Stillwell and Mildred Cornwell; and great grandson, Draven.
