Ronnie Dean Barlow was born on Friday, December 23, 1932, in Coffeyville, Kansas. He was the son of William and Sylvia (Hurst) Barlow. He grew up in Coffeyville and St. Louis, Missouri. Following his twenty-year Naval career, he lived in Norcatur, Kansas, four years, and Wheatland, Wyoming, ten years. In 1985, Ronnie moved to the Ottawa area, in Franklin County, Kansas, where he made his home until his death. Mr. Barlow passed away in Pomona, Kansas, on Sunday, October 23, 2005, at the age of seventy-two years. Ronnie attended school in St. Louis, Missouri, later earning his G.E.D. He served as an E-6 First Class Petty Officer with the United States Navy. He retired from his twenty-year career in June of 1971. He was a ship fitter, serving in Korea and Vietnam, earning the Bronze Star. He earned additional awards and citations including National Defense Service Medal (Second Award), Good Conduct Medal (Third Award), and Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon. Following his Naval career, he worked as a pipe fitter for M.M.R. Corp. in Wyoming on power plants, ten years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #5901 and Aerie Lodge #2700, Fraternal Order of Eagles, both of Ottawa. Ronnie was an outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and gardening. His greatest joy, however, came from his family and spending time with his son.On January 10, 1951, Ronnie was united in marriage with Eleanor Ruth Sellers in Ottawa, Kansas. She preceded him in death on June 20, 1990. He is also preceded in death by his parents; brother, Billy Junior Barlow; and sister, Betty Cowdin. Mr. Barlow is survived by his son, Rodney Barlow and his wife, Arlene, of Spring Hill, KS; three brothers, Gene Barlow and his wife, Melba, of Dewey, OK, Glenn Barlow and his wife, Jackie, of Coffeyville, KS, Bill Weintz and his wife, Barbara, of Bartlesville, OK; granddaughter, Rebecca DosSantos and her husband, Julio, of Overland Park, KS; several nieces and nephews; and companion, Dorothy Beesley of Pomona, KS. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 27, 2005. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Barlow at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 1:00 p.m. Wednesday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 7 to 8:00 Wednesday evening.
