Ron Stuteville, 67, Paola, passed away on February 4, 2010 at his home. He was born October 19, 1942 in Paola to Lola DeWeese and Lon Skeens, Jr. Ron was raised by his mother and stepfather, Leon Stuteville from an early age in the Stillwell community. The family moved to LaCygne, Kansas early in 1960 to a farm east of LaCygne. Ron attended Stillwell schools for 11 " years and his last semester at LaCygne Rural High School where he graduated with the class of 1960. After graduation he joined the U.S. Navy in June 1960 where he served aboard the USS Blue. Upon his discharge in September 1963 he returned to LaCygne. Ron was married to Artie White on April 16, 1965 at the LaCygne Christian Church. They made their home in Kansas City, Kansas until June 1969 when they moved to their current home in Paola. They are the parents of three children; Shawn, Shannon, and Cadi Anne. Ron worked in various jobs over the years until failing health forced his retirement. He worked for the Rock Island Railroad and in the construction business. In January 1980 Ron and Artie purchased the Paola Taxi Service and in 1985 they purchased the coin laundry across the street from their home. They still own and operate both. In 1968, Ron attended the Missouri Auction School to become an auctioneer. Several years later, he and a friend operated a small auction business on South Silver in Paola. From the time the children were small, Ron was involved in their lives and provided a positive influence. He was a Scoutmaster for the years the boys were in Scouts. He coached Cadi for many years in softball and basketball, as well as coaching a women"s slow pitch softball team that Artie played on for several years. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing; and in his later years Ron enjoyed computer games and his X-Box. He also enjoyed his time with the guys drinking coffee of a morning. Ron was a very good dancer and never missed an opportunity to dance. One of his favorite songs was "In the Mood". Ron was a member of the Baptist Church in Osawatomie, being baptized on April 22, 1973; the Paola American Legion, and a past member of the Jaycees. He always enjoyed the Christmas season and volunteered the yard at their home for a tree lot. He also was the town Santa for several years during the mid 1970"s. Ron was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Lola and Leon Stuteville; his father, Lon Skeens, Jr.; one sister, Dixie Stuteville Cousens; and grandparents, Seldon and Esther DeWeese. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife Artie of the home; sons, Shawn Stuteville of Paola, Kansas, and Shannon Stuteville of Stockton, California; one daughter, Cadi Anne Marcum and husband Chris of Paola, Kansas; five grandchildren, Eric Stuteville, Mason Stuteville, Jace Trumbly, Caden Marcum, and Taryn Lynn Ilo Marcum; and one sister, Lola Boyer of Paola, Kansas. All of whom will miss him greatly. Memorials may be made to the Lakemary Adult Center or the City of Paola/Firehouse Community Gym Fund in care of the funeral home.
