Ronald “Ron” Lee Stang, age 81, formerly of Mission, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, Missouri.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 am to 10:30 am, Friday, October 27, 2023, at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church – Overland Park, 7023 W 71st Street, Overland Park, Kansas 66204. Funeral mass will take place at 10:30 am. Burial to follow at 2:00 pm, at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Louisburg, Kansas, with military honors provided by McConnell Air Force Base.
Ron was born on Tuesday, October 28, 1941, along with his twin sister Connie, in Hastings, Nebraska. He was one of 15 children to Clement and Anna (Sander) Stang. Ron attended Oakley High School in Oakley, Kansas, and was a member of the class of 1959.
After high school, Ron enlisted in the United States Air Force in November of 1960. He proudly served his country for four years, and received the rank of Airman First Class. After his discharge in 1964, he attended Pittsburg State University. Ron graduated in 1969, receiving a bachelor’s degree in marketing.
He met his future wife, Joanne Elliott while attending Pitt State. Ron and Joanne were married on Saturday, May 31, 1969. From this union they had six children, Debra, Dianne, Susan, Teresa, Mark and Katherine.
Ron worked for Famers Insurance as a claims adjuster for over 23 years, before retiring in 2006. He was an active member of Queen of the Holy Rosary in Overland Park for many years.
Ron’s true joy in life was his family. He devoted himself to spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren, along with his many siblings and extended family, most especially at yearly family reunions. He loved dogs, enjoyed collecting trains, reading, and was deeply rooted in his Catholic faith.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Clement and Anna Stang, and 11 siblings.
Ron is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joanne Stang, of Louisburg, Kansas, six children, Debra (Tom) O’Bryan, of Louisburg, Kansas, Dianne (Tim) O’Bryan, of Stilwell, Kansas, Susan Burns, of Shawnee, Kansas, Teresa Stang, of Overland Park, Kansas, Mark (Julie) Stang of Kansas City, Missouri,, and Katherine (Bo) Nead, of Overland Park, Kansas, 13 grandchildren, Lauren, Jake, Jenna, Ben and Eli O’Bryan, Jack, Tate, Ella and Anna Burns, Izzy, Kaia and Mila Stang, and Peyton Nead, three siblings, Red Stang, Jerry Stang and twin Connie Martin, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made payable to Alzheimer’s Association, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, P.O. Box 669, Louisburg, Kansas 66053.
