Heavens doors have opened to embrace Ronald Leroy “Ronnie” Small, age 70, of Ottawa, Kansas who died Saturday, November 24, 2012. He was born on Monday, December 15, 1941 in Ottawa, the son of George Clayton and Thelma Lucille (Wilson) Small. Ronnie was a lifelong Ottawa resident. He graduated from Ottawa High School with the class of 1959. On December 19, 1962 Ronnie was married to Mary Lois Bell in Albany, Georgia. They shared over thirty years of marriage before divorcing. When Ronnie was younger he was employed by Willis Nursery. For twenty years he worked for the City of Ottawa as a meter reader. He later worked for Ottawa University for fifteen years as a custodian, retiring in 2007. He was a member of Bethany Chapel Baptist Church of Ottawa; and Past Master of Corinthian Lodge #12, Free & Accepted Masons of Ottawa. Ronnie also coached little league baseball. He is survived by his: Son – Tony Hobbs-Small of Hutchinson, Kansas Son – Ronald “Clay” Small and wife Karesse of Nashville, Tennessee Son – Derrick Charles Small of Humboldt, Kansas Daughter – Rhonda Lynn Robinson and husband Aaron “Neal” of Newport News, Virginia Daughter – Alneata Lucille “Needy” Barrett and husband Bradley of Lawrence, Kansas Son – Daniel R. W. Small of Ottawa Nephew – Alfred C. Cooper, Jr. of Gardner, Kansas (Ron and Mary raised Alfred in the home) Sister – Wilma J. Williams of Wichita, Kansas Brother – George C. Small and wife Undrea of Wichita Sister – Shirley A. McGilbray and husband Delvin of Wichita Sister – Willene E. Carter of Wichita Brother-in-law – Earl “Gab” Bartlett of Ottawa Eleven Grandchildren – Aryn E. Mask and husband Adrian, Maxine C. Robinson, Tiara A. Barrett, Sharquez Brobst-Small, DesiRae’ Small, Hannah L. Robinson, Madisen J. Barrett, Christen L. Robinson, Chance D. C. Barrett, Aysia D. Small, and Isaac D. L. Small Two Great-Grandchildren – Alisha R. Mask and Adrian R. “Trey” Mask, III He is preceded in death by his: Parents – George and Thelma Small Sister – Georgetta M. Bartlett SERVICES: Home Going Celebration will be held at Bethany Chapel Baptist Church, Ottawa, 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 1, 2012. IN STATE: Friends may pay their respects to Mr. Small at Dengel & Son Mortuary from 1:00 to 9:00 P.M. Thursday and 8:00 to 3:00 P.M. Friday. VISITATION: Family will meet with friends at Bethany Chapel Baptist Church from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. Friday.
