Ron Nicholas, age 68, of Waverly, Kansas, died Saturday, July 7, 2012. He was born on Wednesday, June 7, 1944, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Wayne and Bessie (Withington) Nicholas. Ron was a Shawnee, Kansas resident for 30 years, prior to moving to rural Waverly in 1996. Ron attended Shawnee Mission North High School graduating with the class of 1962. A lifelong livestock and horse farmer. He was also a self employed heavy equipment operator in the late 1960’s to mid 1980’s. Working for Dick Morris Superior Plumbing in Olathe, Kansas during 1970 to early 1980. Ron served in the United States Army from January 1966 until January 1968. Serving as a mechanic for Corp of Engineers during the Vietnam War. Ron attended the Waverly Baptist Church in Waverly, Kansas. Was a member and supporter of the FFA. On April 2, 1965, Ron was united in marriage with Carrie Olson in Merriam, Kansas. She survives of the home. He is survived by his: Wife – Carrie Nicholas of Waverly, Kansas Son – Steve and wife Crystal Nicholas of Waverly, Kansas Daughter – Julie Nicholas of Waverly, Kansas Sister – Sharon Nicholas of Shawnee, Kansas Granddaughter – Aahlieya Fonseca of Waverly, Kansas Many nieces, nephews and adopted children He is preceded in death by his: Parents – Wayne & Bessie Nicholas Brother - Doyle Nicholas Brother – Delbert Nicholas Brother – Richard Nicholas SERVICES: Funeral Services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary, 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 12, 2012. IN STATE: Mr. Nicholas will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2012, where family will meet with friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. CEMETERY: Waverly Cemetery, Waverly, Kansas MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorial contributions to Murrow Indian Children’s Home c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S.
