Roger Lee Coltrin

Roger Lee Coltrin, age 77, of Dallas, Texas, passed away April, 19, 2016 at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center. Roger was born on February 1, 1939 in Paola, Kansas to Teddy John and Margery Olive Wheat Coltrin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Margery Coltrin, his sister, Verna Sue and his brother, John. He is survived by his wife, Jan, daughter, Paige Crosby (Ron) and his four grandchildren, Kristen, Eric, Kara and David of Dallas, TX. Also he is survived by his brother-"in-"law, Bruce Meiller (Jeanne), and their children of Wisconsin and his sister-"in-"law, Lois Coltrin of Louisburg, and brother-"in-"law, Ed Thomas of Wichita, KS. Roger cared for those around him " both strangers and friends alike " and possessed immeasurable integrity, which allowed him to hold numerous leadership positions throughout his lifetime, including Mayor of Louisburg (he even had a Mayor"s Ball, not at the taxpayer expense, but on him), Lions Club District Governor of Kansas and Council Chairman of the Kansas Lions. He also served as a member of the Paola School Board. Roger attended Emporia State University, where he played football and ran track, in 1957-"59, then moved to Dallas for mortuary school. Shortly after meeting and marrying his wife Jan in 1960, Roger returned to his native state, where he worked to build a respected funeral business, in partnership with Larry Todd of Louisburg and Leo McRae of LaCygne, Kansas. Never one to shy away from adventure, Roger earned his pilot"s license in his early 30"s and enjoyed trips in the small plane with family and friends. He and Jan traveled the world spending six weeks in South America, several months in New Zealand and Australia and 41 days exploring some of America"s most secluded wilderness on the Lewis and Clark Trail. The couple also ventured to Greece, Egypt, Turkey, Japan and Europe during their time together. In 2003, Roger and Jan moved back to Dallas, where they first met, to be near their daughter Paige and family. Living in Dallas Roger volunteered at the Byran Nelson Golf Tournament and in the gift shop at the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. He believed this provided disabled youth with incredible opportunities and hope for the future. He also greatly loved golf and tournament croquet. Roger was "Uncle Roger" to Johnna and David Coltrin, Edward and Jeff Thomas, and Boyd Teegarden. He could be counted on to come to their rescue. Lunch will be provided following the service at the church.
