Roger Dean Nance was born on Monday, September 15, 1947, in Norfolk, Nebraska. He was the son of Kenneth L. and Margaret A. (Richter) Nance. Roger was a resident of Denver, Colorado, prior to moving to Ottawa, in Franklin County, Kansas in 1965, where he made his home until his death on Sunday, September 25, 2011, at the age of sixty-four years. He graduated from Denver West High School, Denver, Colorado, with the class of 1965. He attended Ottawa University two and one-half years, where he studied History and Political Science. An over-the-road truck driver, Roger drove over 4,000,000 miles during his working career. He was a member of the 1,000,000 mile club. He received many safe driving awards. He drove for Seaton Van Lines thirty-five years. The past eight years to present, he was employed by Trans Am Trucking of Olathe, Kansas. He attended First Baptist Church in Ottawa. Roger was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He dearly loved spending time with his family. He also enjoyed N.F.L. football and was an avid “Chief’s” fan. He was a John Wayne enthusiast, always ready to watch one of his movies. He also enjoyed collecting model cars and trucks. He had the heart that cared completely. He had a smile that brought so much pleasure. He had the love that brought joy beyond measure. On December 21, 1968, Roger was united in marriage with Gweneth Elaine “Gwen” Myers in Ottawa. She survives of their home. He is also survived by his daughter, Wendy (Nance) Rea and her husband, Jeff, of Ottawa, Kansas; son, Scott Nance of Kansas City, Kansas; sister, Mary Glidden of Aurora, Colorado; brother, David Nance of Littleton, Colorado; granddaughter, Ana Williams of Princeton, Kansas; step grandson, Tyler Rea of Ottawa, Kansas; and father-in-law, Dr. H. William Myers of Ottawa, Kansas He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mildred Nance. SERVICES: Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2011, at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa. IN STATE: Mr. Nance has been cremated. Family will meet with friends from 7:30 to 8:30 Friday evening at Dengel & Son Mortuary. CEMETERY: Inurnment at Highland Cemetery in Ottawa.
