Rodrick George “Rod” Lutz, of Ottawa, passed away Wednesday, September 2, 2020, at Olathe Medical Center. Rosary will be held at 10:30 A.M., funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday September 8, 2020 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Scipio, Kansas. Family will meet with friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Monday, September 7, 2020 at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Interment St Boniface Cemetery, Scipio. Rod was born June 26,1956 in Garnett, the son of Sylvester and Evelyn (Renyer) Lutz. He lived in rural Ottawa for the last 30 years moving here from Welda, Kansas. Rod graduated from Garnett High School with the class of 1974. He was united in marriage to Ann Mader on May 28, 1988 at Scipio. She survives of the home. Other survivors include four children, Kari Lutz, Tyler (Paige) Lutz, Julie Lutz and fiancé Parker Olmsted and Travis Lutz all of Ottawa; two sisters, Rose Highberger of Fountain Hills, Arizona and Marcella (Keith) Feuerborn of Ottawa; two brothers, Dayton (Mary) Lutz of Garnett and Milton (Carol) Lutz of Richmond; brother-in-law, Ron Weien of Ottawa and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Vivian Weien; brother-in-law, Maurice Highberger; sister-in-law, Malea Lutz. For the past 30 years Rod worked as a mechanic in the fertilizer department for the Ottawa Co-Op. Rod was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ottawa and the Knights of Columbus, Council #1052, Westphalia. He loved auctions, fishing, and spending time outdoors. He was a grill master and his family always looked forward to his legendary weekend breakfast. Rod also enjoyed tinkering in his shop and could fix anything. He was a great husband, proud supporter of his children and was excited about being an expectant grandfather of twins.
