He worked as a radio DJ at KSEO in Durant, OK, as a cameraman, reporter, and eventual anchor at KTEN News in Ada, OK, and as an Aide and District Field Representative for U.S. Congressman from Oklahoma, Wes Watkins. He then moved into a long career in education at the university level, teaching speech and communications, and serving as the head coach of several competitive and nationally ranked debate teams at Southeastern Oklahoma State University, University of Texas at Arlington, and Emporia State University, where he was the assistant director of the debate program when the team won the national championship in 1993. He later transitioned into IT Project management roles in the private sector. Rodger was an intelligent man with lots of interests. A brief list of his favorites included music, baseball (he was a fan of the Kansas City Royals and the Texas Rangers), and he was an avid reader. He was often a first adopter of technology, and always utilized the latest advancements to add to his ability to learn and his overall well-being.
